For those looking for a simple homemade skincare remedy before the festive season, a rice and clove-based glow gel may be worth trying. Made with just rice, clove and aloe vera gel, the preparation is easy to make and can leave the skin feeling temporarily softer, smoother and refreshed.
To prepare the gel, wash two tablespoons of rice thoroughly and place it in a small saucepan with one cup of water and a whole clove. Cook the mixture over low heat until the rice becomes very soft and the water turns into a thick, jelly-like consistency.
Allow the mixture to cool completely before removing the clove. Blend the rice mixture until it becomes smooth. Take one tablespoon of the rice gel and mix it with one teaspoon of aloe vera gel. If using commercially available aloe vera gel, choose one without added fragrance or unnecessary artificial ingredients.
Before application, cleanse the face properly and spread a thin layer of the gel, avoiding the delicate area around the eyes. Leave it on for around 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Follow up with a light moisturiser.
The gel may provide a temporary bright and smooth appearance, but it should not be considered a permanent solution for achieving “glass skin”. People with sensitive skin should perform a patch test first, as clove can cause irritation or discomfort.
Since the preparation contains no preservatives, it should be refrigerated and used within 24 to 48 hours. It should never be left on the face overnight.
