EPFO Plans WhatsApp Chatbot For Instant PF Balance And Services

EPFO Plans WhatsApp Chatbot For Instant PF Balance And Services

EPFO is preparing a WhatsApp-based AI chatbot to provide members with PF balances, transaction details, claim status and grievance-tracking services.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is moving towards a more digital and accessible service system for its members, with a proposed WhatsApp-based chatbot expected to simplify access to important provident fund information.

Under the planned “Hello Chatbot” service, EPFO members would be able to send a simple “Hello” message through WhatsApp to access details linked to their PF accounts. The initiative is aimed at reducing the need to repeatedly log in to the EPFO e-Sewa portal or the UMANG application for routine services.

According to the information provided, the AI-powered chatbot will first verify whether the WhatsApp number sending the message is registered with the member’s Universal Account Number (UAN). Once verification is completed, a service menu would appear, allowing users to access relevant account information.

The proposed system is expected to provide PF passbook details, the last five account transactions, claim status for withdrawal applications and grievance-tracking information. The service is also planned to operate around the clock, offering members access to basic account-related information without depending on conventional portal-based processes.

The development comes alongside changes and proposals concerning EPFO services and contribution rules. The newly announced Employees’ Provident Fund Scheme, 2026, is expected to cover millions of EPFO subscribers and place greater emphasis on simpler digital services.

Under the stated contribution framework, mandatory EPF contributions would continue to apply up to the statutory wage ceiling of ₹15,000 per month. At the employee contribution rate of 12 percent, this translates into a mandatory monthly contribution of ₹1,800.
