Iran Offers To Fully Reopen Strait Of Hormuz With Conditions

Iran has offered to fully reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, but only after the United States meets several conditions, including ending threats and military action, lifting sanctions, withdrawing forces and providing compensation for wartime damage. The latest development comes amid continuing tensions over one of the world’s most crucial energy shipping routes.

Iran has indicated that it is prepared to fully reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, but only if the United States meets a series of conditions, according to Iranian state media.

The issue was reportedly discussed at a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a senior Iranian military official and secretary of the council, outlined several demands that Tehran wants Washington to fulfil before the waterway is completely reopened.

Iran has demanded that the United States stop issuing threats against Tehran and permanently end military hostilities with Iran and its allied countries in West Asia. Tehran has also called for the immediate removal of what it describes as the US naval blockade around Iranian ports and demanded that American forces withdraw from the region.

Another major demand is full compensation for the damage caused to Iran during the conflict. Tehran has also called for the unconditional release of Iranian assets that it says have been seized and demanded the removal of all sanctions.

Washington has not yet publicly responded to Iran’s latest conditions. The United States has repeatedly called for the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and has said that an agreement must be reached before restrictions on Iranian ports are lifted.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy trade routes. Iran currently claims control over the waterway and has warned that ships attempting to pass without permission could face attacks.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the strait would be fully reopened only after all conditions are met, while discussions with Oman are reportedly continuing.
