A tragic road accident in Jharkhand’s Khunti district claimed seven lives, including three children, after a truck ran over people who had gathered to help an injured scooter rider on Thursday night.
The accident took place on the Karra-Torpa main road, within the Karra police station area, near the Jone-Ludru turn. According to police, a scooter rider had lost control and fallen near the roadside. Hearing the incident, local residents gathered at the spot to help the rider.
While people were standing near the road, a speeding truck approaching from the Torpa side struck the group. Six people died at the scene. Twelve-year-old Saurabh Nayak, who was critically injured, later died during treatment at the hospital, taking the death toll to seven.
One other person was injured and admitted to Khunti Sadar Hospital. Police and local residents helped shift the victims to the hospital.
Khunti Superintendent of Police Rishabh Garg confirmed the deaths and said the truck had run over the people gathered at the spot. The incident has left the area in shock, particularly because people had come out to help someone involved in an earlier accident.
There are conflicting reports about the exact family relationships and the gender-wise details of the victims. Police have not confirmed allegations by some local residents that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The circumstances of the crash are being investigated. The search for the truck driver and further details about the injured person remain important updates in the case.
