Election Commission of India : While technology is essential for making modern electoral processes transparent and efficient, it also brings significant underlying risks. Experts from the Election Commission have warned that the over-reliance or misuse of technology—ranging from Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)—could lead to serious complications in the democratic process.

These concerns were highlighted during a recent international seminar organized by the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM). As a premier training and research institution managed by the Election Commission, IIIDEM plays a pivotal role in organizing workshops and global dialogues focused on democracy and election management.
According to the experts, while technology simplifies logistics, it introduces several critical vulnerabilities: Artificial Intelligence & Deepfakes: The use of AI to spread misinformation or create "deepfakes" to influence voter perception has become a global concern. EVM & Cyber Security: Despite rigorous safeguards, experts emphasize that as technology evolves, so do the methods of potential cyber interference. Data Privacy: The digitization of voter rolls and databases raises risks regarding the leakage or manipulation of sensitive personal information.

IIIDEM continues to be at the forefront of strengthening democratic frameworks. By hosting international workshops and training sessions for delegates from across the globe, the institute aims to build a secure and foolproof election management system. The consensus at the latest seminar was clear: the adoption of new technology must be balanced with strict regulatory frameworks and constant vigilance.
