Popular mobile game Free Fire has returned to India after more than four years, bringing new rules aimed at encouraging responsible gaming. Called Free Fire India, the standalone version became available for download on October 28, 2026, through Google Play and the Apple App Store.
The game had been blocked in India in February 2022 along with several other apps over national security and data-related concerns. Its return is likely to attract many young players, while the new safeguards have also drawn attention from parents.
What are the new rules?
Garena has introduced daily playtime limits, parental consent requirements, break reminders and spending controls for younger users.
According to the game's official information, players aged below 18 can play for up to three hours a day, while the daily limit for other players is six hours. Once the limit is reached, gameplay is restricted until the time window resets.
Players under 18 must obtain permission from a parent or guardian before creating an account. The process includes verification of the parent's or guardian's mobile number. Spending limits also apply to underage players, although the exact monetary cap has not been announced.
How to download it safely
Players should search for “Free Fire India” on Google Play or the Apple App Store and check that the developer is Garena International III. Avoid unofficial websites and third-party APK files, which may pose security risks.
Free Fire MAX remains a separate game. Players should check the official account and store information rather than assume that accounts, purchases or progress will automatically transfer between versions.
The new safeguards are intended to promote healthier gaming habits. Parents can help by discussing screen time, checking in-game purchases and setting clear limits on device use.
