As per latest news reports, activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his hunger strike past midnight after 26 days at Medanta hospital in Gurgaon. Visuals showed Wangchuk sipping from a cup (pic). “I'm grateful and happy to break my fast. Thank you,” he is heard saying. He also posted a message on social media, “Just now in the presence of Union Ministers J P Nadda & Dr Jitendra Singh and the senior leaders of Apex Body of Leh Ladakh I finally broke my fast after 26 days... This was done after a long negotiation on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country... Meanwhile I urge you all to stay very vigilant about not allowing violence of any kind anywhere.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a video message on X said, I know a paper leak is not an ordinary incident, it is very painful for lakhs of students and their parents... The culprits have been caught and are in jail. Our first and foremost responsibility was to ensure that the NEET aspirants did not lose an academic year. We used all resources to ensure that the re-exam was held in record time and results are out and lakhs of students are also celebrating,” he said in the video message on X.
The PM said more needed to be done, hinting the bill would be a step in that direction. “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth! Those who try to harm (it) will not be spared,” he said in a post on X.
