Silver prices have declined in Kolkata ahead of the festive season, giving buyers a fresh reason to check local jewellery rates before making purchases for Dhanteras and Kali Puja. On October 24, silver was listed at ₹2,20,000 per kilogram, down ₹5,000 from the previous day.
The price has fallen by ₹15,000 per kilogram from ₹2,35,000 on October 1. This represents a decline of around 6.38% during October, according to the latest available city-rate data. Silver prices have also moved lower in several recent daily updates, although rates can vary between market sources and local jewellers.
Gold prices have declined as well. The indicative Kolkata rate on October 24 was ₹14,248 per gram for 24-carat gold and ₹13,060 per gram for 22-carat gold. That works out to ₹1,42,480 and ₹1,30,600 respectively for 10 grams, before applicable taxes and jewellery-making charges.
Should buyers purchase now or wait?
People planning festive purchases should compare rates from local jewellers, check the purity and hallmarking details, and ask for a bill showing taxes and making charges. Prices may change with domestic and international market movements. A recent fall does not guarantee that rates will continue to decline, so buyers should make decisions based on their needs and budget rather than trying to predict the market.
