Union Minister of State L. Murugan has reportedly resigned from the Narendra Modi government, triggering fresh speculation about a possible Union Cabinet reshuffle. Murugan, who handled responsibilities in the Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs ministries, has reportedly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his wish to return to Tamil Nadu and focus full-time on party work.
Reports also say Murugan has requested to resign from his Rajya Sabha membership. He was elected to the Upper House from Madhya Pradesh, and his term was scheduled to continue until 2030. However, the formal status of his resignation from Parliament and whether the President has accepted his ministerial resignation need official confirmation.
If confirmed, Murugan would be the third Union Minister of State to resign this year. George Kurian and Ravneet Singh Bittu were reported to have stepped down earlier. The developments have increased speculation about changes in the Union Council of Ministers, but the government has not officially announced a reshuffle date or named any possible replacements.
The political developments are also drawing attention in West Bengal, where Union ministers Sukanta Majumdar and Shantanu Thakur hold key positions. However, there is no confirmed information linking their positions to any possible reshuffle.
Any connection between West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s reported visit to Delhi and the ministerial developments also remains unverified. Further details are awaited from official sources.
