A proposed “Lehra Do Tiranga” gathering by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is expected to draw tight security in Delhi’s Connaught Place on Friday, October 16. The event is scheduled for 5 pm, but Delhi Police has denied permission for the planned march. Central Park will remain closed on Friday and Saturday, and prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita are in force.
Police have deployed more than 6,000 personnel, with additional central forces available. Authorities have indicated that a small group of 11 people may be allowed to gather at a suitable location to hold the national flag and sing the national anthem.
Founded by Abhijeet Dipke as a satirical online movement, CJP is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The group claims that around 13 crore names were removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Election Commission maintains that the revision targets deceased, duplicate and otherwise ineligible entries.
The protest follows the detention of CJP leaders, including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. On October 15, the Supreme Court sought responses from the Centre and Delhi Police over the related detention issue.
Commuters have been advised to expect traffic restrictions around Connaught Place. Any arrests or developments during the evening gathering should be confirmed through official sources.
