Delhi Police detained CJP founder Abhijit Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora ahead of the planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on Friday.
The march was scheduled for 5 pm at Central Park in Connaught Place. According to reports, Dipke was detained from his accommodation in Jhandewalan, while Bora was taken into custody from Mandi House.
The Press Trust of India (PTI), as cited by Business Standard, reported that more than 20 police personnel visited Dipke’s residence earlier in the day and served him a notice.
Police sources said a selected group of participants might be allowed to hold the march at a suitable location. However, it was not immediately clear whether the planned gathering would take place as scheduled.
There were no immediate reports of clashes. Media reports gave different estimates of the number of police personnel deployed in the area, ranging from 6,000 to 30,000. The exact deployment figure could not be independently confirmed.
The detentions came amid heightened security ahead of the proposed gathering. Further details about the police action, the possibility of additional detentions and the timing of Dipke’s release were awaited.
