Kerala Right-Wing Leader Detained Over Controversial Rape Remarks During Protest

Kerala right-wing leader T.G. Mohandas has been detained by police over allegedly controversial remarks about rape and women during a student protest in Delhi. The incident has sparked outrage and raised questions over inflammatory political statements, free speech and public responsibility.

Kerala police have detained right-wing leader T.G. Mohandas following controversial remarks he allegedly made about rape and women during a student protest in Delhi. The remarks have triggered widespread criticism and renewed debate over inflammatory statements made by public figures.

According to allegations, Mohandas made the comments through his YouTube channel, ‘Pathrika’, while criticizing students participating in protests linked to the alleged NEET examination controversy. He reportedly claimed that incidents such as gang rape could occur during such demonstrations and made a deeply objectionable remark suggesting that women participating in the protests “enjoy rape.”

The comments sparked outrage, with critics accusing the 71-year-old leader of promoting misogynistic and insensitive views. Mohandas allegedly went further by suggesting that police should use firearms if student protests resulted in disorder.

Following the controversy, Kochi police began an investigation. A police team reportedly visited Mohandas’s residence in Mattancherry on Sunday night and collected information and digital material related to his YouTube channel. He was subsequently taken to a police station for questioning as part of the investigation.

Mohandas, a resident of Kochi, is known as a right-wing political mentor and has previously served as the Kerala BJP convenor. He is also described as an engineer, journalist and social worker.

Police sources reportedly said that the alleged remarks concerning rape could create fear and disturb public order, making a detailed investigation necessary. The authorities are examining the videos and other material to determine whether further legal action is warranted.
