Jio Platforms made a strong stock market debut on Wednesday, October 28, with its shares listing at around ₹1,358, against the issue price of ₹1,119. This gave investors a listing gain of ₹239 per share, or approximately 21.36%. The company’s market capitalisation crossed ₹12.5 lakh crore following its much-awaited debut.
The ₹30,213-crore initial public offering (IPO) was the largest public issue in India to date. It attracted strong investor interest, with the issue subscribed 22.19 times overall. Qualified institutional buyers showed particularly strong demand, while the retail investor portion was subscribed around 2.72 times. More than one crore applications were reported for the issue.
How much listing profit could investors make?
The difference between the issue price and the listing price was ₹239 per share. Based on this difference, the theoretical listing gain would be:
- 10 shares: ₹2,390
- 50 shares: ₹11,950
- 100 shares: ₹23,900
These figures are illustrative calculations before brokerage, taxes and other applicable charges. The IPO’s minimum application lot was 12 shares, requiring ₹13,428 at the issue price of ₹1,119 per share. Therefore, applicants generally had to apply in multiples of 12 shares, subject to the applicable category rules.
What if you did not receive an allotment?
Investors can check their allotment status through the IPO registrar, KFin Technologies, or the relevant exchange. If shares were not allotted, the blocked application amount should be released according to the applicable process. Investors should check their bank account or UPI mandate and contact their bank or broker if the amount remains blocked beyond the expected period.
The strong debut has drawn attention to Jio Platforms’ telecom and digital businesses. However, a high listing gain does not guarantee future returns. Share prices can rise or fall after listing.
