India produced a spectacular golden burst at the 2026 Asian Games on Friday, winning three gold medals in quick succession across boxing and wrestling. The stunning run, following Lovlina Borgohain’s earlier victory, helped India climb into the top five of the overall medal standings with 75 medals.
Parveen Hooda began the surge by claiming gold in the women’s 65kg boxing category. She defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin in a closely fought final, winning by a 3-2 split decision. The triumph marked a major comeback for Parveen, whose previous Asian Games bronze was later withdrawn following a doping-related suspension.
Ankush Panghal then added another boxing gold in the men’s 80kg category. He defeated South Korea’s Kim Min-seong in the final, completing India’s boxing gold hat-trick on the day after Lovlina and Parveen had already secured titles.
Wrestler Sujeet Kalkal delivered another memorable performance in the men’s freestyle 65kg category. Facing Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev in the final, Sujeet secured India’s first wrestling gold of the Games. His victory ended a long wait for India in the category and added another highlight to an extraordinary day.
Earlier, Lovlina had won the women’s 75kg boxing gold, while India’s women’s recurve archery team also secured gold. With five gold medals coming on the day across boxing, wrestling and archery, India’s medal campaign gained significant momentum in Aichi-Nagoya.
