Delhi witnessed major transport disruptions on October 10 as security was tightened ahead of a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Authorities announced the closure of dozens of Metro stations, while train services to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations were affected between 4 am and 2 pm. The Howrah and Sealdah Rajdhani Express trains scheduled to leave West Bengal on October 9 were also cancelled, according to reports. The restrictions created difficulties for passengers travelling to the capital.
What should passengers do? Travellers should check their PNR status and the latest train updates on official Indian Railways or IRCTC platforms before leaving home. Passengers whose trains were cancelled should follow the railway’s official instructions for refunds or alternative arrangements. Those travelling through Delhi should allow extra time and verify Metro services before starting their journey.
Meanwhile, INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Mamata Banerjee, met President Droupadi Murmu on October 9. They submitted a memorandum seeking action against the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
The Opposition demanded Kumar’s resignation, suspension of the SIR exercise and other electoral reforms. These are Opposition allegations; the Election Commission has maintained that its procedures follow the law.
The political dispute and transport restrictions have placed electoral transparency and commuters’ concerns at the centre of attention.
