Three leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)—Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka—were released on Sunday after being produced before an Executive Magistrate in Delhi. They had been detained by Delhi Police on Saturday, October 10, shortly after their flight from Mumbai landed at Delhi airport.
The three leaders were travelling to the national capital to participate in a planned protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest was linked to allegations concerning the revision of electoral rolls.
On Sunday morning, the leaders were brought before the Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment Police Station. CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh confirmed their release in a post on X, writing, “Executive Magistrate court releases Abhijeet, Saurav and Ashutosh.”
According to reports, their release followed the submission of surety bonds of ₹50,000 each, with a condition to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year. Police had invoked preventive provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The detentions took place amid heightened security in Delhi ahead of the protest. Several political leaders and demonstrators were also detained during the police operation. Reports put the number of people detained across the capital at several thousand, although figures varied between sources.
The release of the three CJP leaders marks a fresh development in the controversy over the planned demonstration and the police measures taken to prevent protesters from gathering at Jantar Mantar.
