The flood situation in Assam remains critical despite a decline in the number of affected residents, with seven more deaths reported in the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 75, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
All seven fatalities were reported from the Nazira revenue circle in Sivasagar district, one of the worst-affected regions in the state. Although floodwaters have begun to recede in some areas, over 3.32 lakh people continue to face the impact of the disaster across seven districts.
The affected districts include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan. Flooding has inundated 21 revenue circles and 622 villages, disrupting normal life and damaging homes, roads and agricultural land.
Among the worst-hit districts, Charaideo has recorded the highest number of affected residents, followed by Sivasagar and Jorhat. Authorities have established 81 relief camps, where more than 32,000 displaced people are currently taking shelter. An additional 34 relief distribution centres are providing food, drinking water and other essential supplies.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing with the support of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and local volunteers.
The ASDMA also reported that the Dhansiri (South) River remains above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district. Meanwhile, floodwaters have submerged more than 45,000 hectares of cropland, raising concerns over agricultural losses and the livelihoods of thousands of farming families.
