Amit Shah Launches Amul Dairy Project Boosting Bengal Employment And Investment

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lay the foundation stone for Amul Bengal Dairy’s new yogurt manufacturing facility in West Bengal, marking a major milestone in the state's expanding dairy sector. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata and is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Industries Minister Tapas Roy, and other senior dignitaries.

The upcoming plant, planned at the Salkia Food Park in Howrah, is expected to become the world's largest yogurt manufacturing facility. According to project details, the unit will produce nearly one million kilograms of yogurt, lassi, flavored beverages, and other dairy products every day.

The project represents an investment of approximately ₹650 crore and is expected to strengthen West Bengal's dairy infrastructure while creating significant direct and indirect employment opportunities. Industry officials believe the facility will also enhance the state's food processing ecosystem and support local dairy farmers through increased procurement.

This will be Amul's first fully owned dairy manufacturing plant in West Bengal. The company already enjoys a strong presence in the state's dairy market, selling nearly one million liters of dairy products daily. With the commissioning of the new plant, production capacity is expected to rise substantially.

Officials have also indicated that Amul may expand its investments to North Bengal in the future, reflecting its long-term growth plans in the region. While the initial memorandum for the project was signed earlier, authorities say the implementation process has gathered momentum, paving the way for one of the state's most significant dairy infrastructure projects in recent years.
