Akhilesh Sets 27,000-Vote Target Per Seat Ahead Of Uttar Pradesh Polls

Akhilesh Yadav has set a target of adding 27,000 votes for the Samajwadi Party in every Uttar Pradesh Assembly constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has outlined a constituency-level electoral strategy for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, setting a target of increasing the party’s vote count by 27,000 in every Assembly constituency. Speaking to reporters in Lucknow on Sunday after a meeting with the party’s state executive members and office-bearers, Yadav said the same target would effectively mean reducing the BJP’s vote count by 27,000, according to reports.

Yadav said the party would use technology more extensively and strengthen direct engagement with voters. He called for workers to visit households, listen to people’s concerns and discuss issues related to justice and dignity.

The announcement comes months ahead of the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, scheduled for 2027. The SP has also been working to expand its organisational outreach through its PDA—backward classes, Dalits and minorities—programmes at the block level, according to the party’s stated strategy.

The 27,000-vote figure has also been linked in reports to the margins recorded in the 2022 Assembly election. One analysis noted that the BJP won 255 seats in 2022, while victory margins in 126 of those constituencies were below 27,000 votes.

The SP is simultaneously seeking to consolidate its organisation and broaden engagement with different sections of the electorate. Yadav’s latest announcement therefore places a numerical target at the centre of the party’s preparations for the next state election.
