Ranbir Kapoor has apologised after a verbal slip during a Dussehra event in Kolkata sparked online jokes and memes. The actor addressed the incident publicly the following day at a music launch event for Ramayana in Chennai.
Ranbir attended the Dussehra celebration at Salt Lake’s Central Park on October 20. Organised by Salt Lake Sanskritik Samsad, the event was themed around “Ram’s Ayodhya”. The actor was there to promote the upcoming film Ramayana, in which he plays Lord Ram.
During his speech, Ranbir reportedly intended to say that truth and goodness ultimately triumph. However, he made a verbal mistake that appeared to reverse the meaning of the statement, making it sound as though truth and goodness come to an end instead.
A clip of the moment soon circulated on X and Instagram Reels. Users shared jokes, memes and critical reactions, turning the brief moment into a widely discussed topic online. However, no verified view count for the viral clip has been made public.
On October 21, Ranbir addressed the incident at the Ramayana music launch in Chennai, where music composer A. R. Rahman was also present. The actor publicly apologised for his mistake. His response also drew attention, with some viewers appreciating his willingness to acknowledge the slip.
The incident has added to online discussion surrounding Ramayana, which continues to attract attention ahead of its release. The film’s song “Ravan Tandav” has also reportedly gained strong traction on YouTube’s India trending charts.
While the speech mistake has become a source of humour online, the incident highlights how a brief verbal slip at a public event can quickly spread across social media. The exact reach of the clip, however, remains unconfirmed.
