Russian Missile Strike Hits Mittal-Owned Steel Plant in Ukraine, Killing Two

A Russian missile strike hit the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steel plant in Ukraine, killing at least two people and injuring 10 workers. The facility is owned by Indian industrialist Lakshmi Mittal. The attack came amid escalating Ukrainian drone strikes inside Russia and growing tensions in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Russia launched a missile strike on a major steel plant in Ukraine’s Kryvyi Rih on Sunday, killing at least two people and injuring 10 workers, according to local reports.

The steel plant, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, is owned by Indian-born industrialist Lakshmi Mittal. Following the missile attack, operations at the facility were suspended as authorities assessed the damage. Reports said several parts of the plant were damaged in the strike.

Kryvyi Rih is the birthplace of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, making the attack on the strategically important industrial city particularly significant amid the continuing Russia-Ukraine war.

The missile strike was part of a wider series of Russian attacks across Ukraine. Southern Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region was also targeted on Sunday, where two people were reportedly killed.

The latest Russian strikes came after several days of Ukrainian drone attacks on targets inside Russia. A recent Ukrainian drone attack reportedly killed six people, with a regional governor describing it as one of the largest such attacks in the area in recent times.

Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that its forces intercepted 822 Ukrainian drones overnight on Saturday. Moscow has repeatedly accused Kyiv of intensifying attacks against Russian territory, while Ukraine has continued to target Russian military and strategic infrastructure.

The latest escalation highlights the increasingly intense nature of the conflict, with both sides using drones and missiles against targets far from the front lines.

The attack on the ArcelorMittal facility also brings renewed attention to the risks faced by Ukraine’s industrial infrastructure, which has already suffered extensive damage during the prolonged war.
