India enjoyed a golden Friday at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, with boxer Lovlina Borgohain and the women’s recurve archery team securing gold medals. The victories added to India’s growing medal haul and highlighted strong performances across multiple disciplines.
Lovlina produced a memorable performance in the women’s 75kg boxing final, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 decision. The victory came on Lovlina’s 29th birthday, giving the Olympic medallist a special occasion to celebrate. She had won silver at the previous Asian Games but went one step further in Nagoya to claim her maiden Asian Games gold.
The Indian women’s recurve archery team also created history. Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Anil Mohod defeated South Korea 5-3 in the final to win India’s first-ever Asian Games gold in the women’s recurve team event. The Indian trio remained composed during a closely fought contest before securing the historic victory.
India also collected silver in the mixed recurve team event, with Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara finishing runners-up after losing the final to China. The result added another medal to India’s successful archery campaign.
In sailing, India secured another bronze after Nethra Kumanan finished third in the women’s dinghy event, adding to the country’s medal tally in the discipline. India’s performances across boxing, archery and sailing underlined the breadth of its medal-winning campaign at the Games.
