A new chapter in West Bengal’s constitutional history begins today. On March 12, 2026, Ravindra Narayana Ravi will officially take the oath of office as the Governor of West Bengal in a prestigious ceremony at the 'Throne Hall' of Raj Bhavan.

Following constitutional protocol, the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the Governor-designate. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, members of the State Cabinet, and other high-ranking officials are expected to attend the ceremony. Stringent security arrangements have been implemented around Raj Bhavan and the Dalhousie area to ensure a smooth transition of power.

Ravindra Narayana Ravi, a 1976-batch IPS officer, brings a wealth of administrative and security experience to the state. He previously served as the Governor of Nagaland and Tamil Nadu, and held the critical position of Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA) of India.

Political analysts suggest that his appointment comes at a crucial juncture for the state, particularly with upcoming elections on the horizon. His role will be vital in maintaining the constitutional balance and fostering coordination between the State and the Central government.
