Amidst the darkening clouds of global conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again voiced India’s unwavering commitment to peace. On Thursday, following a high-level bilateral meeting in Delhi with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, PM Modi asserted that "problems cannot be solved through military conflict alone."
During the joint press conference at Hyderabad House, the Prime Minister specifically addressed the ongoing crises in Ukraine and West Asia (the Middle East). Emphasizing India's neutral yet proactive stance, he stated: "We firmly believe that solutions to any dispute cannot be found on the battlefield. Whether it is Ukraine or West Asia, we advocate for the immediate restoration of peace and stability through diplomacy and dialogue." The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when the world is grappling with supply chain disruptions and humanitarian crises resulting from these protracted wars.
The discussions between the two leaders extended beyond geopolitics, focusing on a robust roadmap for the future. India and Finland have decided to elevate their ties to a Strategic Partnership, focusing on digital transformation and sustainability. Both nations agreed to deepen cooperation in cutting-edge sectors such as Quantum Computing, 6G technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). As a leader in clean energy, Finland will collaborate with India on "Green Hydrogen" initiatives and circular economy projects to combat climate change. PM Modi reiterated the need for reforming global institutions like the UN Security Council to reflect the realities of the 21st century—a sentiment President Stubb echoed, acknowledging India's growing role as a global stabilizer.
Prime Minister Modi remarked that the relationship between India and the European Union (EU) is entering a "Golden Era." With the recent progress in the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, Finland is positioned as a key gateway for Indian businesses into the Nordic region.
President Alexander Stubb praised India’s role as a "Vishwa Bandhu" (Friend of the World), noting that India’s influence is essential in mediating global tensions and ensuring a rules-based international order.
