The escalating military tension in West Asia following joint strikes by the US and Israel on Iran has sent shockwaves through the global aviation industry. India’s air connectivity has taken a severe hit, with at least 20 flights cancelled at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport since Monday morning. Major hubs like Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai are also facing significant disruptions.

The geopolitical situation turned critical as military activity spread across West Asia. Following the strikes, several countries have partially or fully closed their airspace. Dubai International Airport, one of the world's busiest transit hubs, has suspended operations, leaving thousands of international travelers stranded.

The ripples of the conflict are being felt acutely across Indian metros:
Kolkata (Dum Dum): Flights scheduled for Dubai, Doha, and Kuwait were grounded early this morning. Passengers traveling to Europe and the US via the Middle East are the most affected.

National Disruption: Over 60 flights have been cancelled or diverted from Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo are reportedly re-routing long-haul flights to avoid the volatile Iranian and Iraqi airspace.

Surge in Airfares: Due to the sudden reduction in available seats and longer flight paths, ticket prices for alternative routes have spiked by nearly 80% to 100%.

Among those stranded in Dubai are several Indian tourists, including popular Tollywood actress Subhashree Ganguly. Reports from the ground suggest a high-stress environment as authorities prioritize military movements over civilian traffic.
