Kolkata: A wave of panic gripped the judicial landscape of West Bengal this Tuesday morning as several major courts, including the Calcutta High Court, reported receiving bomb threats. The simultaneous scares in Kolkata, Asansol, and Baharampur led to a complete halt of legal proceedings as lawyers and litigants evacuated the premises in a frenzy.

The tension began around 11:00 AM when the office of the Registrar General at the Calcutta High Court received an anonymous email. The sender claimed that high-intensity explosives had been planted within the court buildings. Almost simultaneously, similar threat messages were reported at the Asansol District Court and the Baharampur Court in Murshidabad, sparking immediate chaos. Immediately following the threat, the Kolkata Police and the Bomb Squad initiated a massive sweep. From judges' chambers to the Bar Association rooms, every corner is being thoroughly inspected. As of now, no suspicious objects have been found.

Asansol & Baharampur: Lawyers in these districts suspended work and moved to open grounds outside the court complexes. Security forces have cordoned off all entry and exit points, restricting public access. Sniffer dogs and advanced detection equipment have been deployed. All district police headquarters have been placed on High Alert to prevent any untoward incidents.

Preliminary investigations by the Kolkata Police Cyber Cell suggest this might be a coordinated cybercrime or an attempt to instill public fear. Detectives are currently tracing the IP addresses used to send the emails. While the police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the motive, they are investigating whether this is a hoax or a larger conspiracy. No explosives have been detected so far, and the search operations are ongoing.
