A new chapter in Bangladeshi politics is about to unfold. Following a landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the BNP is making final preparations to form the government. Party Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to take the oath as Prime Minister next week. In a significant diplomatic move, the BNP is planning to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend this historic ceremony.
Humaiun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Advisor to Tarique Rahman, told international media outlets that inviting regional leaders is a cornerstone of the BNP’s revamped foreign policy. He stated:"Our neighbors and the stability of this region are of utmost importance to us. The goal of Tarique Rahman’s foreign policy is to make this region more influential on the global stage. Despite the short notice, we want to send a positive gesture of friendship."
Kabir further added that this invitation serves as a "goodwill gesture" aimed at thawing the chilled bilateral relations and fostering a new era of cooperation between the two nations.
Following the BNP's decisive electoral victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm congratulations to Tarique Rahman via his verified social media handles on Friday (February 13). Modi remarked that the victory is a testament to the trust the people of Bangladesh have placed in Rahman's leadership. He emphasized that India stands ready to support a "democratic, progressive, and inclusive" Bangladesh and looks forward to strengthening the multifaceted ties between the two countries.
