A wave of travel disruption hit major Indian metropolises today as app-based cab and bike-taxi services went offline. Following a call by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), drivers associated with platforms like Ola, Uber, and Rapido observed a 6-hour symbolic strike from morning until noon, leaving thousands of commuters stranded in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

The strike was organized to highlight the deteriorating working conditions of "gig workers." The primary demands include:
A reduction in the high percentage taken by aggregators to ensure better take-home pay for drivers. Provision of health insurance, accident cover, and pension benefits for drivers and their families. Demand for "worker" status instead of "partners," ensuring protection under national labor laws.

The strike's timing on a Saturday morning caught many off-guard, particularly those heading to airports, railway stations, or weekend shifts.
Many passengers reported waiting for over 45 minutes with frequent ride cancellations and "No Cars Available" messages.
