New Delhi: A 25-year-old man employed at a private bank’s call centre died in the early hours of Friday after his motorcycle plunged into a 14-foot-deep open construction pit in west Delhi’s Janakpuri, police said. The victim, identified as Kamal Dhyani, was returning home from work when the accident occurred on Joginder Singh Marg. According to initial findings, Dhyani is believed to have fallen into the pit around midnight. However, his body and the motorcycle were discovered nearly eight hours later, around 8 am, after a passer-by alerted the police control room.

Police officials said the construction pit, part of an ongoing civic project, had allegedly been left open and inadequately barricaded, raising serious questions about safety measures at the site. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, coming just days after a Noida-based tech professional died in similar circumstances, once again highlighting concerns over civic negligence and poor enforcement of safety norms at construction sites.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Delhi Police have registered an FIR for culpable homicide against the project contractor and officials of the Delhi Jal Board, officials confirmed. Further investigation is underway to ascertain responsibility and fix accountability.
