After a year of political uncertainty and central administration, democratic governance has been restored in Manipur. In a high-profile ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan , senior BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh took the oath of office as the new Chief Minister of Manipur. The Governor administered the oath of office and secrecy.
Alongside the Chief Minister, four other cabinet ministers were also sworn into office today. The primary challenge for this new administration will be maintaining law and order while bridging the ethnic divide to accelerate developmental work in the state. High-ranking officials, including the Union Home Minister and top BJP leadership, attended the ceremony.
Political Career: A veteran BJP leader and the former Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. He has long represented the Singjamei constituency in the Imphal West district. Known within the party as a disciplined leader and a skilled organizer with a focus on regional stability.
It is worth noting that President’s Rule (Article 356) was imposed in Manipur last year following significant ethnic unrest and a breakdown of the law-and-order machinery. After a year of gradual stabilization and a clear mandate in the recent elections, the Central Government decided to revoke the federal rule to allow for an elected government.
Immediately following the ceremony, Khemchand Singh addressed the media:"Our foremost priority is to restore the lost trust between every community in Manipur. Following the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,' we will work to build a bridge between the people of the hills and the plains."
