India on Sunday rejected Pakistan’s allegation that New Delhi was behind last week’s deadly attacks in Balochistan, calling the charge “baseless”. According to Reuters, Balochistan Chief Minister said 17 law enforcement personnel and 31 civilians were killed in the attacks, which Pakistan has blamed on separatist groups. Pakistan’s military said 133 militants were killed in operations conducted between Friday and Saturday.
In a statement, the Pakistan military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), alleged the attacks were carried out by “Indian-sponsored militants” and claimed security forces foiled attempts to seize control of any city or strategic installation. The military also said intelligence reports indicated the attacks were planned and directed by “terrorist ringleaders operating from outside Pakistan”, who remained in direct communication with attackers during the incidents.
Responding, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan should address “long-standing demands” of people in the region instead of making “frivolous claims” after violent incidents, adding that Pakistan’s record of “brutality and violation of human rights” was well known. Pakistan has previously accused India of involvement in violence in Balochistan, allegations New Delhi has consistently denied.
