Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan has witnessed one of its deadliest escalations in decades. Following a wave of coordinated attacks by separatist insurgents, Pakistani security forces launched a massive 40-hour counter-operation, resulting in the deaths of at least 145 militants. The province remains under high alert as the total death toll from the clashes surpassed 190.

The violence began early Saturday (January 31) when the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) launched what it termed "Operation Herof" (Black Storm). Armed militants carried out simultaneous gun and suicide attacks at over 12 locations, including:
Attacks on high-security zones and police facilities.Suicide bombings and assaults on security installations. A siege on paramilitary outposts and the kidnapping of local officials (who were later released).

According to Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, the 40-hour battle led to significant losses on all sides:
145 (The highest single-day toll for insurgents in recent history).17 (Including police, Frontier Corps, and a Navy troop). 31 (Including women and children targeted in their homes and on highways).

In response to the brazen attacks, the Pakistan military and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted extensive "mopping-up" operations. Both sides reportedly used advanced weaponry; the BLA released videos showing female combatants involved in the suicide missions.Mobile internet remains suspended in several districts to prevent further coordination among rebel cells. Major highways connecting Quetta to other parts of the country were briefly blocked but have now been secured by the army.
