The South Indian film industry is in shock as the Madras High Court has issued an interim stay on the release of the highly anticipated film 'Jana Gana Mana', starring Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay. This movie, which marks the actor’s final appearance on the silver screen before his full-time transition into politics, has hit a major legal roadblock.
The primary reasons for the court's intervention involve two major controversies:
A screenwriter filed a petition alleging that the core script, several key sequences, and dialogues were lifted from his original work without permission or credit.
Given the film's heavy political themes, several petitions were filed claiming certain scenes might incite public unrest or misrepresent specific administrative protocols.
The Madras High Court stated that until the intellectual property dispute is resolved and the original creator's concerns are addressed, the film cannot be screened. The judge emphasized the importance of protecting creative rights before a commercial release of this magnitude. The next hearing is scheduled for early next week.
The delay is particularly painful for fans as Vijay has already launched his political party, Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and announced that he would quit acting to serve the public.
This film was intended to be Vijay’s "swan song"—a grand farewell to a career spanning over three decades. The delay has not only affected the box office projections but has also stalled the planned massive fan celebrations across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
