As per news reports, despite repeated assurances by the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Bangladesh that minority communities will be protected, incidents of violence against Hindus continue to be reported. In a chilling incident, a 23-year-old Hindu car mechanic, Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, was burnt alive after his workshop in Narsingdi district was set on fire while he was asleep inside.
The incident occurred late on Friday night. Police said preliminary findings indicate that the blaze was not accidental. Local residents told investigators that the fire was deliberately set, pointing to a planned act of arson. By the time help arrived, Bhowmik had suffered fatal burn injuries and was declared dead.
The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of religious minorities in the country, even as authorities maintain that law and order is being upheld. An investigation is underway, and police said further details would emerge after a forensic examination of the site.
